I have seen the future and it looks like the past.
As usual, I waited for Ridley Scott's "new" film "Prometheus" to run a while before seeing it in IMAX 3-D. It is in fact based primarally on old material. True "Alien" afficenados will recognize plot elements, themes and visuals from the entire Alien film franchise. I will not inflict spoilers on any reader who has not yet seen the movie. I sat through the end credits and took note of the recognition given to "Alien" creators Dan O'Bannon and Ronald Schusset. I saw the original "Alien" film in 1979 at the Egyptian Theater in Hollywood just a week after it had premiered there. I became an ardent fan of the film. I learned that O'Bannon and Schusset's original script and vision for "Alien" had been greatly truncated for the first film. For budgetary, technical and running length reasons a huge amount of script never made it to celluloid. Quite a bit of the unused material has finally found its way onto the screen in the form of this "Alien" prequal. I was surprised to see some concepts that appeared in the non-Ridley Scott "Alien" films that have been recycled into this new offering. It appears that Scott is entirely aware of elements common to the other movies. He has given to the fan base what it expects to see.
The movie will always be compared to its seminal material. It is over-all a satisfying experience.

Long Time No See
This will be my first Journal Entry in over a year. 2020 may be a terrible year for the world, but 2019 was an annum horribilus for me. I have not posted anything on my DA page in a long time due to catastrophic medical and financial problems in my family life. I am only now beginning to get my affairs back in order so I can resume my creative endeavors. During this long interval I was able to accomplish two successful fossil collecting expeditions in the Badlands of Wyoming. I intend to post photographs from my excursions soon. I have also been stymied by DA's insistence on "improving" their posting format online. It is entirely opaque to me and has further discouraged my attempts to update my DA file. I really HATE the changes that DA has made to its format and appearance in the past year or so.

The Terror Review
The Terror
The AMC series “The Terror” will probably be considered to be a landmark TV series. It demonstrates that a sprawling adventure story can be accomplished using three sound stages and a lot of green screen. My first impression of the series is that it represents a major improvement over the book. It closes many plot holes and gathers loose threads that Dan Simmons left hanging. The series also treats the historical figures behind the true story of the Franklin Expedition with greater respect than the novel. Franklin and the other Royal Navy officers and men who perished in an effort to explore the Northwest Passage in
The Orville is not Wright
I just watched an episode of the Fox TV series "The Orville". It has simply got to be the worst SF series (comedy or otherwise) on television since "Home Boys From Outer Space". "The Orville" is an ego-generated vanity project from Seth MacFarlane who is best known as the creator of the long running primetime animated series "Family Guy". Promoted as a comedy by the network, this misfire is drearily unfunny.
The show is supposed to be a parody of "Star Trek" in the manner of "Galaxy Quest". It is more like a pale imitation of "Galaxy Quest". Like a Xerox of a Xerox it is a stale simulacrum. MacFarlane has trekked down this road before. W

I agree with you, and though that Prometheus was one of the best films of 2012 for what it had to say about the human condition. One great positive review/defense of the movie can be found here:<a href="reflectionsonfilmandtelevision….
