SPOILER ALERT!
The premise of "Barbarella" is that the city of Sogo on a far off planet orbiting Tau Ceti is alive. Beneath it is a gelatinous ooze called the Matmos. It feeds off of the negative energy put out by the evil deeds of the city's dwellers. Toward the end of the movie the Matmos is released to devour the city. Barbarella happens to be in the bed chamber of the Great Tyrant when this happens.
Barbarella and the Black Queen survive because as the Tyrant says:
"The Matmos put a bubble around us to protect it from your goodness ... Your'e so good it threw you up!"
