Turtle in a Hoodoo

Description

More of my fossil photography can be seen in my DA "Paleo & Sci Illo" gallery:

During a foray into the Eocene Bridger Formation of Wyoming I encountered this naturally eroded standing stone. The nucleus of concretion balanced on this natural pedestal in a 35 cm fossilized shell of the ancient turtle species  Baena. It can be made out as the white lozenge shaped profile within the knob. This surface has been exposed so long that it has a colony of orange lichen growing on it. This specimen is in a remote place, but fossil looting has occurred nearby. It may be only a mater or time before this unique 49 million year old fossil is vandalized or stolen.
