I encountered yet another immense golden eagle nest in southwest Wyoming during the summer of 2014. The eagles choose pinnacles in the Eocene Bridger Formation badlands as nest sites. This nest has to weigh half a ton. It had been abandoned for some years and a great number of cedar branches had already tumbled down to the sides. Golden eagles are still very active in the area. A few days before this picture was taken I witnessed an eagle catch prairie dog in a nearby canyon.
