This is a tribute to one of the great classic films of the science fiction genre. George Pal's 1950 movie was as influential in its day as "Star Wars" would be a quarter of a century later. Based on a story by Robert A. Heinlein, it was an honest attempt to depict space travel in a realistic manner. The concept art and background paintings were produced by the great astronomical artist Chesley Bonestell. The obsolete view of the earth and the moon reflects the naïve understanding of planetology prior to the Space Age". I painted the rocketship in silver enamel to give it the look of a Hugo Award.
